Natural Medicines & Supplements to heal the gut! (Body Healing Detox Series)

The good old gut! Where all of our sicknesses, illnesses and diseases stem from...but did you know that the human body is not designed to be unwell and diseased, but rather is meant to operate from a level of vibrance, exuberant energy and vitality? It is our natural state to thrive and feel good everyday. Let's find out how we can nurture ourselves back to 111% health shall we!


THE DOWN LOW

As I sit here and write this, I'm going through a million and one thought processes and feelings. I'm in the MIDST of my cleanse, it's happening! It's all coming together and my only wish is to be able to share that with you, because with each day comes a little more renewed strength. Believe me when I say that on a cleanse, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional strength is required at every stage of the process. The more you flex these muscles, the stronger and more empowered they become.

So my very first suggestion to you before you even look in to the foods and supplements to heal yourself, is to be real with yourself and become READY to face absolutely ANYTHING. Because a cleanse is something only we can do, for ourselves and by ourselves. Therefore, it will teach you a great deal of patience, a great deal of love, and a great deal of compassion towards yourself. The truth is that In this process, you really are all you've got!

And that's exactly what it is, a process, so please don't expect me to give you a 1 size fits all solution, because that's not what this is about. This is a call for you to realise that you are worthy of healing yourself from the inside out and living your absolute best life. No digestive, immune, diseased, parasitic issues, but just a happy, healthy and free life, and if thats what you wish to create then read on.

WHERE IT'S REALLY AT

So first things first, we need to realise with any healing and any cleanse, that we are removing and eliminating the toxins or low vibrational energies within our bodies. So therefore the elimination process will require you to continuously repair yourself and restore all of the good bacteria and high vibrational energy back into body and energy fields the entire time. I am explaining this from a physical and spiritual sense because that's pretty much what "energy clearing" does for the spiritual and energetic bodies.

You remove the old blocks and pent up toxic energy, and infuse yourself with light. So in a physical sense that is exactly what you will then have to do with your body! ESPECIALLY if you have awakened to yourself, you will spiritually evolve and then keep coming back to your physical self to bring it in to alignment with your higher calling and soul purpose. SUPPLEMENTS & REMEDIES TO HEAL YOUR GUT


Elimination Phase:

• Cascara & Triphala: These are both herbal remedies that can help us to create consistent bowl movements. Whether we realise it or not, the human body and digestive system is designed to eliminate waste and remove toxins from your internal being frequently. Research indicates that we should be having up to 2-3 bowl movements a day, especially after consuming meals. Triphala however, is a great herb to also include during the actual detoxification and repair & restore process. It helps to keep the bowls moving and provides overall support to the digestive system.

This helps the body to absorb the nutrients from the meals we consume and rid itself of the excess toxins before the food can sit in the digestive tract and ferment. When our gut health is compromised, the food stays within our system for long periods of time and can cause all sorts of health issues like leaky gut, IBS, chronic constipation, flatulence, gas, indigestion, acid reflux, autoimmune diseases, bloating, and the list goes on!

Cascara is a great way to help relieve constipation and create a more consistent bowl movement. It acts as a natural laxative and can really help to assist the process when beginning your elimination phase prior to healing and repairing. I would only recommend taking them in the first few weeks of your healing stages, especially in the elimination phase to ensure your body doesn't rely on them over a long period of time to create bowl movements. Psyllium Husk: Another amazing natural fibre that acts as a gentle laxative to help relieve constipation and diarrhoea, aids in managing blood sugar levels and has the ability to boost heart health. Psyllium Husk is a soluble fibre which passes through the small intestine without being completely broken down and absorbed, and therefore carries out all the waste and acts as a cleaning/detoxifying agent.


Side Note: I always recommend using herbal and natural supplements over pharmaceuticals when healing. The less chemicals we are putting into our body, the easier it becomes for the body to cleanse and repair itself of all existing chemicals and toxins and revive itself back to health. With any healing process, physical or spiritual it is vital to find the ones that you feel drawn to the most and that work best for you.


• Milk Thistle (or other effective liver supplements/detoxes): I know a lot of people consider this more of a "liver cleanse" supplement, and it is. However when healing the gut, the liver function is just as important in the process to support all of the organs working at optimal level. Our internal organs are all designed to work together in harmony, therefore we must incorporate an approach that addresses all areas of our healing effectively. I would highly recommend a liver cleanse or detox prior to beginning the journey of your "formal" gut healing. Another way you can do a mild cleanse everyday is to drink lemon water first thing in the morning. I have a special recipe I call "Mornin Juice", which use first thing in the AM prior to breakfast, and it has been a game changer in my overall health and wellbeing.


Repair & Restoration Phase:

• Slippery Elm: This is a herbal medicine that is traditionally used to help coat and soothe inflamed tissues in the gastrointestinal tract. It can also help to produce more mucous in the intestines which will assist in breaking down and moving your food through the digestive system with more ease. This powerful herb can also assist in protecting against ulcers and helps to balance the acidity levels within the body!

• Collagen: Collagen is a protein that is found within the bodies connective tissues (skin & gut lining), and is created by the human body. However as we age, the body begins to decrease in collagen production levels. This not only shows up in terms of the skin (signs of ageing), but also compromises our gut health and digestive system. Collagen is a primary component of the cells that line the gut, therefore consuming it even when your in perfect health is a great way to assist your digestive system. Not to mention it helps tremendously with the growth of your hair, skin and nails!

• Natural gut healing powders and supplements: Herbs and remedies like turmeric, garlic, ginger, tulsi, lemon water, and gut relief powders recommended by a health food specialist can always be a useful addition to your regimine. Most natural herbs that mother nature provides us with ESPECIALLY organic unmodified fruits and vegetables are designed specifically to keep our bodies functioning at optimal health. • Probiotics: I cannot stress this one enough, when we've removed all the good bacteria in our bodies from years of alcohol consumption, antibiotics, poor diets, lack of rest, lack of self-love and lack of nutrition, the bad bacteria in our bodies grow and over populate the good stuff! If we are constantly giving outwardly and not giving back to ourselves, this creates the kind of energy that manifests as dis-ease in the body and becomes a constant vicious cycle!

When choosing a probiotic, opt for a plant based, high quality brand that provides at-lease 15-20 strains, if the strains are less, consume twice the dosage or take one with every single meal.

• Digestive Enzymes: These are crucial in assisting our bodies to break down whatever food we are putting in to our stomach especially when our gut health is compromised. Depending on your stomach acid levels, you may also want to add in Betain HCL (hydrochloric acid) to the mix - which is tough to find in countries like Australia but you can find it online! It is important to take a digestive enzyme prior to every single meal with your probiotic to give your body the best chance at breaking down the foods to be eliminated. This in turn helps to create space for your next meal and makes it easier for your digestive system to heal itself.

• L-Glutamine: This particular amino acid is vital to maintaining the health and growth of electrolytes within your gut. This is because the cells within your body prefer this amino as a form of fuel to keep you going. I started consuming L-glutamine whilst going to the gym. At the time I was only taking it as I discovered that it helps to restore the the levels of L-Glutamine in the body that are being exerted through intense physical stress and exercise. However I have now discovered that its a powerhouse for repairing and restoring your gut and should be consumed in general during a healing phase to rehydrate your electrolytes within the gut!

• Diatomaceous Earth: This one has been an absolute life saver! It is a fossil shell flour which is a raw whole food/superfood. It contains silica and is rich in iron that is easily absorbed by the body. It also contributes to a more alkaline environment in the body with a PH level of 8 and helps to kill off parasites and bad bacteria within the gut in the most gentle and efficient way. To be honest, finding what works for you along this process is a trial and error kind of journey. It takes time, patience, effort and solid focus to find out what methods, protocols, supplements and natural remedies work for you. There are also physical ways to enhance these benefits and the healing process of your body such as Yoga, Meditation and my favourite of them all, SLEEP! The most important thing to acknowledge however, is that none of these supplements can actively work to their fullest potential unless we ourselves are consuming the correct foods and nutrition to maintain a healthy body and healing environment.

I refrain from using the term "diet" because it isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle. The most important thing to understand before undergoing any detox or healing journey is why you're doing it and how you can make changes to your current situation and lifestyle to allow your mind, body and soul to be fully present in the process. It takes an unwavering level of focus, and it won't always go according to "plan" but you must choose to create a more healthy, vibrant, loving atmosphere and environment internally and externally! You can make the process a whole lot smoother by ditching the artificial, sugary, fast food diet, and choosing the fruits and vegetables provided by mother nature to nurture and nourish yourself back to full health.

This has been my biggest lesson on this healing journey, to allow the process to unfold, create a routine, practice your methods consistently and be patient with yourself as you incorporate this lifestyle. Of course you can get back to eating delicious foods and maybe even a little junk here and there but it truly is all about balance, conscious awareness, intention and mindful eating habits. It all goes hand in hand, once you change your mindset and realise that you deserve to feel well all the time, you can achieve that wellness with much more ease and clarity no matter what you eat!
