Self-Love & Self-Worth - The Down Load
Self-Love is a common phrase in today's modern day world. It has become increasingly popular and brought to the awareness of the collective with significant reason. Over many generations, self-love wasn't really a subject spoken of, and if it was, it was more or less considered "selfish". Self-worth was also a phrase overlooked for eons, due to the nature of a patriarchal system that was in most cases imbalanced in terms of the equanimity of masculine and feminine energies.

The term Self-love can be misconstrued if we are unaware of it's true significance. As a society we have always been taught to put the needs of others & humanity before ourselves, as this is considered to be a "noble" or a "humble" act and deed of service. It is indeed a beautiful gift when we are able to give to others freely without any attachments of expectations. However, it is also important to recognise, that we can only give from what we ourselves have! So the paradox remains, that to love another, we must first understand and learn to love ourselves. As we cannot truly give something that we ourselves are void of.
What is Self-Love?
As mentioned before, there is a misconstrued idea of Self-love when considered from an egotistical point of view. When we come from a space of ego, the term indeed becomes one of selfishness, as it is more about self-fulfilling properties, competitiveness, "my way or the highway", needing to "win" or being "number one" at all costs, even at the expense of others. This perspective in itself, is what repels people from the term as it creates a connotation of anterior motives, a self-centric agenda and can be perceived as a root of evil. It's kind of like when people build and generate wealth for a status, or fame, or just to be rich and better than others, but cannot spend one penny towards assisting the less fortunate or society in any way. They consider themselves superior and others inferior which is a form of lack based consciousness and perpetuates separation consciousness.
On the contrary, self-love that is practiced from a space of unity consciousness is where one realises that the need to maintain and sustain their own energy (energy = universal currency = ability to give to others), is at the heart of all the good they can do, offer and create in this world. An example of this is Yogi's, Monks, Buddha, not-for-profits, Healers, Donations, Mother Theresa, Gandhi, MLK and so many others who are still praised till this day for the legacy they left. Most people see these people as self-less human beings who gave freely with no attachments, who dedicated their lives to the greater good of all. Whilst this is true, they understood that they could only give, if they were able to receive, hence they spent most of their time generating energy through meditative practices and self-reflection which gave them the ability to "receive" the energy in order to be able to share it with others. This in itself is an act of self-love.

What is Self-Worth?
Similarly to the examples mentioned above, one must have a certain level of awareness towards their self-worth in order to be able to partake in self-love based activities towards the greater good. To have self-worth simply means to recognise your worth despite of how others may perceive you, and to know that you are worthy simply because you exist. It means to never "sell yourself short" or "settle" for that which does not resonate with or align with your soul. From a unity based perspective an example of this would be if you were asked to sell your soul for billions of dollars and lose your rights to your creative gifts, or you could keep your creative gifts and your soul, but make less money doing what you love.
One with self-worth would recognise that their soul is worth far more than silver or gold, they would know that it is their souls essence which brings their true creativity to life, and that without that essence they would not be able to generate the kind of energy that makes their work so amazing to begin with! Knowing the worth of their soul and their gifts, would assist them to create abundance of all forms without the need to settle or sell themselves in order for temporary gain. This is itself is an act of selflessness and self-love at the very same time. The scenario might be a bit "out there" but it happens everyday, so many people are faced with similar decisions and if acting from energies like desperation, need, lack or misalignment, they can choose path's that can drive them away from their original purpose. This in itself highlights why it is so important to know your worth, love yourself, value and respect yourself, so that you can operate as your highest self and therefore bless humanity with your divine essence.
It's okay to love yourself, In fact it's NECESSARY!
So despite what you have been told about self-love and your worthiness, it really does come down to perception. As mentioned, one person may see it from an egotistical stance, whilst another may view it purely from an energetic and unity based stand point. How you see it is up to you, and how you practice it is what makes all the difference! Self-Love and Self-Worth usually go hand in hand, as you practice one, it automatically strengthens the other.
To practice self-love and build your sense of self-worth it's a great idea to take a holistic & multidimensional approach, something that covers mind, body and soul! To love yourself means to give yourself that which you would normally seek from others (Codependency), or that which cannot be attained from external places and can only be found within (Actualisation). Some examples of a holistic approach to self-love & building self-worth are:
Body:
If you are tired, listen to your body and take some rest/time out
If you are craving something, eat it in moderation with gratitude and enjoyment
If you are overworked get a massage, have a bath, sun bake, go to nature
If you feel out of alignment exercise, dance, yoga, gym, go for a walk, run, and give your body some physical activity
Mind:
Listen to positive affirmations
Meditate to calm your mind, strengthen focus and concentration, as well as assist in opening up your receptivity
Listen to soothing music and high vibrational frequencies/mantras
Read about topics that stimulate your mind, passions and creativity
Soul:
Practice listening to your inner guidance and intuition
Practice the art of saying no when something doesn't align with your own inner moral compass
Surround yourself with people, places and things that help to raise and uplift your vibration
Do more of what you love! Partake in activities that naturally make you feel good and bring your creativity to life!
With that said, many of this tips interrelate and therefore provide a holistic approach. They not only focus on the physical vessel but also work on your energetic vibration which is your "source of supply" (how much you have to give) and at the core of all of your manifestation abilities. The more you fill your own cup, the more you have the ability to pour into others, and if your cup is in overflow, you will be so full of beautiful high vibrational loving energy, that it will naturally tip into and touch the lives of others. As you love yourself from a space of grace, you will inevitably bless humanity with that same love and a touch of divine grace!
